THE SISALWOOD STORY

Sisalwood is a high-end decorative panel composed of a natural fiber composite veneer that is adhered to an environmentally certified plywood panel. The veneer is made from rapidly renewable plant fibers such as banana bark, sisal, and grasses, and a polymer that emits no formaldehyde or VOC’s. Our products are used in interior design and furniture applications as a replacement for tropical hardwood-veneered panels. Sisalwood emulates the natural variability and warmth of hardwood without the detrimental impact on people and the environment.

MISSION AND BENEFITS

We believe that aesthetics transcend physical appearance. The story of a material, where it’s from, its environmental footprint, and the social impact are all elements that affect how we see a material and the feel that material brings to a space. While helping to preserve tropical forests by providing an alternative to tropical hardwood panels, Sisalwood simultaneously provides quality employment to significant numbers of people in developing countries. The final product is an aesthetically compelling green building material which may be used toward Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
